Custom Printed Balloons in Los Angeles: How the Process Works, From Brief to Installation

For Nike’s 2025 LA Dodgers World Series Parade, we produced 300 custom vinyl-printed balloons in 24 hours from brief to installation. Most brand teams evaluating custom printed balloons in Los Angeles don’t know whether a local operator can actually execute at activation scale, or whether “custom printed” means a box of helium bouquets for a trade show table.

This guide covers the printing process, what you need to brief an order, how printed balloons integrate into full installations, and what it costs so you can assess whether TBG can handle your brief before reaching out.

The Nike × Dodgers World Series Parade: Custom Balloon Printing at Activation Scale

In October 2025, Nike activated at the LA Dodgers World Series Parade. The brief called for 300 custom vinyl-printed balloons in brand-matching colors, parade-ready anchoring, and delivery to the activation site. Turnaround from brief to installation: 24 hours. All-night crew. It was the highest single-job revenue in TBG’s history.

That project isn’t a highlight reel moment. It’s the capability floor. It establishes what activation-scale custom balloon printing actually looks like: a specific balloon count, a specific print method, a specific timeline, and an on-site installation team that knows how to anchor branded work at an outdoor public event.

No other print manufacturer can cite these kinds of jobs. No delivery studio can replicate it. For the brand activations and product launches where your brand identity needs to hold up at parade scale, in direct sun, in front of a national television audience — that’s the context this article is written from.

How Custom Balloon Printing Works: What We Use and Why

Most print suppliers explain their process in terms of their equipment. We explain it in terms of what the print needs to do at the event.

There are two primary methods for printing on latex balloons: screen printing and vinyl printing.

Screen printing applies ink through a mesh screen onto the balloon surface. It works well for standard sizes (11″–16″) and high-volume commodity orders. Color accuracy is adequate for simple logos in one or two colors. For event-scale work where the print needs to hold fidelity against brand standards, screen printing has limitations, particularly on balloons above 18″, where ink coverage becomes inconsistent.

Vinyl printing applies a digital vinyl decal to the balloon surface. It’s the method we use for activation-scale work. The reasons are specific: vinyl holds color fidelity on large-format latex (24″, 36″) where screen printing begins to degrade. A logo that needs to read from 30 feet at a parade activation, in direct afternoon sun, on a 36-inch balloon, needs vinyl. Screen print can’t deliver that.

We match color to the Pantone Matching System. If your brand has defined Pantone references, we work from those. If you’re working from CMYK or hex values, we convert and confirm during the proof stage. Color accuracy matters more on large-format balloons — small color drift that’s imperceptible on a 12-inch balloon becomes visible at 36 inches.

Print size range: logos print readably on balloons from 16″ upward. For activation-scale installations where the print needs to read at distance, 24″ and 36″ are the standard sizes. We use professional-grade Qualatex latex for large-format work — the surface consistency on Qualatex holds vinyl adhesion better than commodity latex alternatives.

What You Need to Brief a Custom Printed Balloon Order

Here is exactly what we need to produce a quote and begin the print process:

Logo file. Vector format preferred — EPS, AI, or SVG. A high-resolution PNG (300dpi+) works for straightforward designs. Raster files with complex gradients may require artwork adjustment before print.

Brand color codes. Pantone reference numbers are the most accurate starting point. CMYK or hex values are workable. We confirm color accuracy during proof review before any production begins.

Balloon size. 16″, 24″, or 36″ depending on the installation context. If you’re not sure which size is right for your venue and activation setup, share the event context and we’ll advise.

Event date and location. Required for production scheduling and logistics. Outdoor versus indoor affects anchoring and material specifications.

Quantity estimate. Minimum order for event-scale custom print work is project-dependent. We don’t produce small personalization runs — this service is for brand activations, corporate events, and installations where volume and brand consistency both matter.

Installation or loose distribution. Whether you need printed balloons installed as part of a full decor build, or loose for staff distribution, affects the quote scope significantly.

Lead times. Standard production is 5–7 business days from approved proof. Rush orders are available — the Nike/Dodgers project is the ceiling of what rush capability looks like (24 hours, all-night crew, premium pricing). For most activations, 10–14 days from initial brief to installation is a realistic working timeline.

Print manufacturers sell you a product. We install it.

Knowing how custom printed balloons actually function within a full event installation matters. Ordering 300 logo balloons is one decision. Knowing how those balloons should be positioned, sized, and anchored to carry brand identity through a venue or outdoor activation is a different skill set entirely.

Here is how we integrate custom printed balloons into full installations:

Within an organic arch. Printed balloons work as focal placement elements, not as the arch’s base layer. We position logo-print balloons at the visual apex and key sightline points, using larger-size prints (24″–36″) so the logo reads clearly from guest distance. The surrounding organic layers use solid-color latex matched to the brand palette. The result is a branded arch that holds color consistency without turning the installation into a billboard.

As balloon arch installation column toppers. For trade show booths, product launches, and grand opening balloon installations, we use printed balloons as the statement element at the top of balloon columns. A single 36-inch logo balloon at the apex of a column reads at trade show distance and photographs cleanly against a booth backdrop.

In branded balloon backdrop walls. Printed balloons layer into a backdrop wall as the brand identity anchor — positioned centrally or in a repeating pattern, depending on the design. Solid-color balloons in the brand palette fill the surrounding field. The print provides identity; the installation provides scale.

For outdoor parade and open-air activations. This is where the Nike/Dodgers project is directly applicable. Outdoor activations require weighted base anchoring, wind-exposure engineering, and print durability under direct sun. Vinyl print on Qualatex latex handles outdoor conditions that screen-print alternatives do not. We plan the anchoring weight and placement around the specific venue and expected wind exposure.

For activations that require custom printing integrated into a full installation — from initial brief through to on-site build and breakdown — our branded balloon installations team handles the complete scope.

What Custom Printed Balloon Activations Cost in Los Angeles

Custom print is an add-on to balloon cost, not a replacement for it. The total project cost for a branded balloon activation has three components: the print itself, the balloon materials and installation labor, and the venue logistics (access window, anchoring requirements, load-in coordination).

Print cost scales with order volume, color complexity, and Pantone match requirements. A straightforward two-color logo on a standard run costs less to produce than a four-color gradient print that requires multiple proof iterations to hit brand standards. Rush orders carry a premium — the 24-hour Dodgers turnaround was priced accordingly.

Full-service activation pricing (print, installation, and venue logistics) is project-specific and quoted per brief. The range is driven by: balloon count, installation complexity (single arch versus multi-zone venue build), indoor versus outdoor requirements, and timeline. A 300-balloon parade activation is a different project cost than a branded balloon column set for a product launch at a hotel ballroom.

LA market rates for professional installation work sit above national wholesale print pricing. That’s the cost of doing business in a market where venue access windows are restricted, labor rates are real, and the execution standard at brand-level events is not negotiable.

We don’t produce commodity print runs. If the brief is 50 logo balloons for a table display, there are national wholesale printers who handle that volume efficiently. If the brief is a branded activation where the printed balloons are part of a full installation, delivered and built by the same team that designed it, that’s what we do.

How to Order Custom Printed Balloons for a Brand Activation in Los Angeles

Send us the following to start a quote:

  • Event date and venue (or venue shortlist)
  • Estimated balloon count and size preference
  • Logo file (vector preferred) and brand color codes (Pantone, CMYK, or hex)
  • Whether installation is required or print-only

We produce a visual proof before any production begins, which confirms color, print placement, sizing, and quantity. No production starts without proof approval.
